English Conversation Program

About English Conversation Group
The English Conversation Group is one of GBCI’s longest-running programs, providing a welcoming and supportive space for adult English language learners to strengthen their fluency and confidence. For about 14 years, older-adult volunteers from Asbury Methodist Village have partnered with participants in small groups or one-on-one to practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English. The program goes beyond language instruction. Each week, participants engage in practical conversations and activities that connect directly to daily life—discussing healthcare visits, school interactions, shopping, and navigating community resources. At the same time, volunteers and learners build friendships across cultures, making the program both an educational and community-building experience.
